Q. How much will I be
paid?

Q. What are the working
hours?
The following is intended only
as a guide as there are various projects which require tradesmen, each
with its' own work schedule; you will be informed of the location of
the work, the specific hours you will work and the work rotation schedule
in the job offer made to you. In some cases, it may be possible for
you to choose which location you prefer although we cannot offer you
a guarantee that this will be the case at this point in time.
General Guidelines:
Industrial workers will be required
to work 10 hours per day
Pipeline workers - 12 hours per
day.
Hours worked over 40 hours per
week will be paid as overtime at 1.5 times the basic rate of pay.
Q. How many breaks are
there?
A. There are
3 main breaks: 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon and 30 minutes
for lunch.
Q. What leave
I will I be entitled to? (General Work Rotation)
A. 12
days on and two days off for 12 weeks then two weeks off; in some cases
12 days on and two days off for six months then one month off.
Note: This varies from
site to site, so the above is only to be used as a guideline until you
receive a specific job offer which will give full details for the specific
location the job offer applies to.
Q. Will I be entitled
to receive any Holiday Pay?
A. Yes, although
this will be paid to you weekly on top of your wages and not separately,
so you will not receive any pay whilst you take your holiday leave.
Q. Who will pay my wages?
A. Your employer
will pay your wages WEEKLY, and not Euroresource.
Q. Will I get paid for
overtime?
A. Yes. Overtime
will be paid on any hours worked on any day that exceed 8 hours per
day. The rate payable for overtime will be at a time and a half.
Q. Will I be paid the
same as Canadian workers?
A. Yes. All workers
will receive the same rates that have been agreed between the union
and the employer.
Q. Will I need to open
a Canadian Bank account?
A. Yes, you will
receive help to open a Canadian bank account shortly after your arrival.
Q. Is a Trade Union involved
with this employment and will I have to be a member?
A. Yes.
Q. Do I have to pay for
the trades test?
A. No. Your employer
will pay the fee of $450.
ACCOMODATION
Q. What is the accommodation
like, and will I have to pay for it?
A. The
accommodation is of the worker’s camp type, single rooms and shared
dining and washing facilities as well as recreation areas. Your accommodation
will be supplied by your employer and is rent-free. Also, there are
many on-site facilities available including gym, bar, cinema, shops
etc.
Note: The facilities
vary from site to site, although the above is a good representation
of the facilities available on all sites.
Q.
Will my employer provide canteen facilities?
A. Yes,
food is free for workers.
Travel
and Health Insurance
Q.
What are the travel arrangements?
A. You
will be provided with a return air ticket from the nearest civilian
airport to you that offers direct or connecting flights to Alberta.
You will meet you at the airport in Alberta by a representative and
will then be given transport from the airport either directly to your
place of work in Alberta, or to a hotel near the airport (paid for by
your employer) before traveling to the location of your work.
Q.
Will my family’s hotel accommodation be paid for?
A. No.
Q.
If I’m required to stay for a short period in a hotel, what is
included?
A. Only
the cost of the room will be paid, you will be responsible for settling
any other hotel charges.
Q.
How do I get a work permit?
A. Euroresource
will take care of this. The employer already has obtained the necessary
government permits to employ foreign tradesmen.
Q.
How will I get a visa?
A. After
you receive an offer of work from the employer, Euroresource will make
an application for your visa if you need one.
Q. How much will a visa
cost?
A. Nothing. The
charges will be paid on your behalf.
Q. What about medical
emergency, will I be covered for medical expenses?
A. Competitively
priced medical cover will be arranged by your employer and the cost
of this will be deducted from your wages weekly.
Note: First aid
treatment is available on site and is supplied by trained medical professionals.
Q. What about safety?
A. The
government of Alberta requires that all construction workers sit and
pass a construction safety test before commencing work on any construction
site. You will receive training before sitting the test and will not
be allowed ‘on site’ until you get a pass mark. The test
and training is in English, so you must be able to speak, read and write
in English - no exceptions allowed.
HOW
LONG WILL I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A REPLY?
Once
we have received your fully completed application we should have an
answer for you within 4 weeks.
Once
you have received a job offer, you will be required to complete a Temporary
Skilled Worker Work Permit Application Form and return it to
us, we will then make the application for a work permit for you.

Local
Information - Alberta
Alberta has one of the
lowest tax regimes in Canada.
The electricity supply in Canada
is 115v AC.
Do not bring any appliances
that only operate on 220 / 240v as you will not be able to use
them. Some electrical appliances have a voltage selector switch so that
they can be set to work at different voltages, consult your instruction
manual or retailer before deciding which electrical appliances you will
bring with you.
