HSMP - Jobs under HSMP

THE HIGHLY SKILLED MIGRANT PROGRAMME HSMP

Do I qualify?

We strongly recommend that you download and read the "Guide to HSMP" in PDF format, if you are under 28 years old click here, if you are 28 or over click here.

This self-assessment is taken from the rules and guidelines used by the Immigration Authorities in the UK. If, after reading this page and noting your score, you think you may be accepted under the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) - you should contact us for further advice about your particular situation.  Many thousands of people have already been placed in work in the UK under the HSMP.

To make a successful application, you will need to provide evidence that you can score at least 65 points if you are over 28 years old or 60 points if you are under 28 according to the HSMP scoring method below.

Under the HSMP, you will required to show that you will be able to continue your present career in the UK, for example: that you have found work in your field with an employer in the UK, or have made some efforts to find work in your field in the UK.

Those who score below 65 or 60 points (if you're under 28), should not pursue an application for migration through the HSMP.

1. Educational Qualifications

Points in this category are scored in the following way:

Type of Degree
Points
Ph.D. (Doctorate or Professor)
30
Masters Degree (e.g. MBA, MA or M. Sc.)
25
BA or B. Sc. (Ordinary Degree)
15

Qualifications have to be to the recognised British standard of Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. to qualify for these points and vocational and professional qualifications can also score points in this area under the HSMP if you can produce satisfactory evidence to show the qualification is equivalent to a British level qualification.

Note: Under the HSMP, the British equivalent standard of your qualifications may need to be verified by the National Academic Research Information Centre which is used  by  the UK Government, employers and  jobseekers  for this  purpose.

2. Work Experience

It is highly desirable that you have work experience at graduate level within your field in order to qualify under the HSMP.

If you have 5 years' work experience in a graduate level job, whether you had graduated at the time or not. If you had not graduated, the work must have been the type of work that would normally require someone who had graduated.
25
If you have a PhD and have worked for at least 3 years in a graduate level job.
25
If you have worked for at least 5 years in a graduate level job including which has included 2 years of senior or specialist level work. This can mean that you held a high level management position in a large or small company or held a specialist position which required a very high level of technical expertise and/or knowledge.
35
If you have 10 years' graduate level work experience which includes at least 5 years senior or specialist work.
50

N.B. For the purposes of scoring under the HSMP:

Graduate level work experience means work within a company or institution that normally requires you to have a first-degree level qualification. If you have experience in such work but do not have a degree, you still qualify for the points above, providing that the work you've done normally requires someone to have a degree.

Senior level work experience means work as a director (in a small company or institution), or as a head or manager of a department or leader of a project management team within a large company or institution. For those working in the academic community you may have managed a department or research team. You will normally be considered if you ran your own business and employed several staff.

A specialist position means work that requires a very high level of technical or artistic expertise. You need not have held a management position.

Under the HSMP, the kind of evidence required to demonstrate work experience is:

Reference(s) from employer(s) on their letter headed paper, showing job title, the dates and period of your employment together with a description of the duties and responsibilities you held.

For business applications under the HSMP, those who have run their own business will have to provide the following details:

Business name, Business plans, Number of staff, Tax returns, Annual accounts, Client contracts.

Note: Personal references will not be accepted as evidence under the HSMP.
